They were not allowed to pick up animals from other parishes (counties) to take back to Slidell, as hard as it was not to stop for the many stranded pets they saw.

ARFP volunteers worked at the shelter from 8am until 1pm for two days to help the overwhelmed shelter staff, then returned to Slidell to walk and care for the dogs in the section they oversaw there. Although St. Tamany had no water or electricity, the shelter had generators, so volunteers were able to bathe the animals' injuries and clean their kennels.
