Program Overview

The Animal Rescue & Foster Program, founded in 1992, is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization supported by membership and private donations. ARFP receives no funding from the State, County, City, or United Way.

Mission

The Animal Rescue & Foster Program is dedicated to helping abandoned puppies and kittens. ARFP provides temporary foster homes and medical care for homeless puppies and kittens and places them in permanent adoptive homes with responsible pet owners. ARFP requires and ensures that all of the animals adopted are spayed/neutered to help decrease the stray over-population problem.

Programs

Adoptive Services: Finding permanent homes for stray and abandoned puppies, kittens, and dogs and cats.

Rescue Resource: Volunteers help provide critical information about finding homes and medical care for abandoned puppies, kittens, dogs and cats when foster homes are filled and ARFP is unable to bring more animals into the program.

Foster Care: Volunteers with ARFP provide safe, loving homes for stray and abandoned puppies, kittens, dogs and cats until permanent adoptive homes are found.

Medical Care: Necessary vaccinations and other preventative treatment are administered to all ARFP animals regardless of cost.

Good Manners Class: Trained volunteers meet with adoptive families once a month to offer assistance with areas such as housetraining, basic obedience, playbiting, and jumping up.

Nursing Home Pet Visitation: Volunteers visit local nursing homes monthly allowing the residents the opportunity to bond with puppies and kittens.

Community Education: ARFP volunteers make presentations at schools and public meetings to educate people on the problem of stray overpopulation while promoting the welfare of animals.

Savannah Fund: This fund is set up specifically for the treatment and care of severely injured or ill stray animals. È

Long Range Goals

To provide a centralized "No Kill" shelter in addition to our current foster home capabilities. This would allow us to rescue more animals and reduce the number euthanized at the local, county-funded facility.

Creating a shelter of this magnitude requires donations of land and money. If you would like to help us with our goal, please make a tax-deductible gift. ARFP relies entirely on donations from the private sector. È

Events

Adoptathon: Help with the biggest Adoptathon of the year held the first weekend in May. This nationwide event enables ARFP to promote and adopt out many foster animals to qualified homes. Many extra hands are needed for this fun event.

Annual Book Fair: Help with ARFP’s fall book sale. Volunteers are needed year-round to collect books as well as setting up and pricing books the day of the sale.

Adoption Fairs: Join us every Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday of each week for our adoption fairs. These fairs are ARFP’s most viable way to find homes for our huggable puppies and kittens. Volunteers are needed to set up, break down, and hold the animals.

Human Race: A 5K walk/run held each March in Greensboro. Volunteers and foster animals walk/run in this fun event to raise money for ARFP.

Yard Sale: Help with ARFP's spring yard sale. Volunteers are needed year-round to collect items as well as setting up and pricing them for the sale. È
